Israeli Troops Allegedly Electrocute and Abuse GSF Activists
The human rights group Adalah reports that 430 Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) activists from over 40 countries were tortured in Israeli custody at Ashdod Port. The abuse included electric shocks, physical and psychological harassment. Three activists were hospitalized with serious injuries, while dozens more suffered broken ribs and breathing difficulties.
Testimonies and documentation from Adalah’s legal team also reveal activists were forced into painful positions, like walking bent over and kneeling for long periods. Additionally, Israeli authorities reportedly forced Muslim female activists to remove their hijabs.
The activists are set to undergo a detention review in court on Thursday (May 21, 2026) before being deported. Adalah accuses this criminal policy of torture and humiliation of being backed by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, who shared videos of the inhumane treatment.
