Islam Is So Misunderstood, Honestly

Assalamu Alaikum! I’m from the U.S., and while I never believed that whole “Muslims are terrorists” nonsense, I still had some wrong ideas. I blame my government, the military, and the media. They keep trying to make all Muslims look like extremists we should fear, but… nope. Sure, there are extremists, but every religion has them, so that’s not new. They talk about the extremists, but they never mention the Muslims who stop them. I still laugh remembering when I thought all Arabic speakers were Muslim-talk about a silly mix-up! 🤣 It’s really telling. Here in the U.S., we have a lot of Christian nationalists who sound exactly like the “evil” extremist Muslims they always criticize. It’s like… look in a mirror! You want to do the same things you’re scaring people about, just under the name “Christianity” instead of “Islam.” 🙄 Hypocrites. I’m an atheist (used to be Christian), and I find religions pretty fascinating! I still remember learning about Ramadan in elementary school when a Muslim classmate’s mom came in to tell us about it. I thought it was so interesting. And I’ve had so many good experiences with Muslims. There are lots of Somalis in my area, and they’re always so kind! Some of my favorite coworkers were from Somalia. 🇸🇴 I really hope more people learn about Muslims and Islam, at least enough to see through the propaganda. We’re all human, after all. I truly wish people everywhere felt more connected, no matter our skin color, religion, where we’re from, or anything else… we’re all on this wild, beautiful Earth together. ❤️
