Death Toll from Ebola in Congo Reaches 796
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has claimed 796 lives out of a total of 2,073 reported cases.
Tedros mentioned that in the previous outbreak (2018–2019), it took more than 10 months to reach 2,000 cases, showing how much faster it's spreading this time.
WHO declared this outbreak a public health emergency of international concern on May 17, and they think the risk of it spreading to wider areas is still high, so they need to step up handling and surveillance in the affected countries.
