Is it a Trial from Allah or a Blessed Path He's Set for Me?

So I met someone who seems to have all the qualities I've been making du'a for in a partner. It got me thinking-could this be qadr (destiny), or maybe a test from Allah to see how firm I am in my faith? For me, the person isn't Muslim, which is why I'm really reflecting on this. I know some brothers and sisters have been guided to Islam through their future spouses, and their lives have changed for the better alhamdulillah. Still, I'm being careful to avoid anything that could lead to haram, like being alone together. In general, how do you tell if something is a sign to stay away or a door Allah is opening? I believe not everything we desire is good for us, so I'd value some outside thoughts, insha'Allah.
