In Saratov, a psychologist helped Muslim women defend their personal boundaries.
As-salamu alaykum. The women’s Muslim organization "Rodnik" in Saratov had a meeting with psychologist Sabina Kulieva. She led a lecture-workshop called "Healing the Heart: How to Stop Taking on Other People’s Problems and Find Inner Peace."
During the meeting, the participants learned that constantly violating personal boundaries takes a person out of their resourceful state. Sometimes the boundaries are crossed by others, and sometimes we do it ourselves by taking on extra responsibilities or postponing rest. The psychologist explained that accepting overwhelming responsibilities also affects our spiritual life: it can interfere with the quality of our prayer (namaz) and our ability to gain knowledge. Sabina reminded everyone that we are in this world primarily for the worship of Allah, and that should be the main priority for a believer.
The women discussed the concept of personal boundaries from the perspective of Islam and did practical exercises that helped them understand themselves better, hear their true desires, and identify the reasons for their inner imbalance. The workshop lasted about two hours - and according to the facilitator, that was enough to feel the first positive changes and relief in the heart.
The event gathered Muslim women of different ages; after the lesson, the participants chatted over cups of fragrant tea with pastries.
Mashallah, such meetings help us take care of our souls and families, blending spirituality with self-care.
