Etihad Rail: Exciting Developments and Upcoming Passenger Service Launch, Insha'Allah
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh! The UAE's Etihad Rail project is progressing steadily towards launching its much-anticipated passenger service, along with significant expansions in freight transport. At a recent gathering in Abu Dhabi, Etihad Rail shared insights into future plans, including partnerships to operate passenger trains and improve connectivity around stations.
The network will eventually span around 1,200 kilometres across the UAE, linking cities from the Saudi border to Fujairah. Plans include 10 passenger stations in places like Sila, Mirfa, Madinat Zayed, and Al Dhaid, connecting 11 key cities and areas. The goal is to integrate the rail service smoothly with other transport options like the Dubai Metro and bus lines to cover the "last mile" effectively.
The passenger service aims to launch in 2026, with travel times expected to be around 57 minutes from Abu Dhabi to Dubai and 105 minutes to Fujairah. The route will connect multiple important locations, including stations near universities and shopping areas, ensuring easy access for passengers.
Etihad Rail is also expanding its freight network, currently operating at full capacity for transporting construction materials and other goods. This helps reduce road traffic and contributes to lowering CO2 emissions, supporting environmental goals.
Moreover, a separate high-speed rail line between Abu Dhabi and Dubai is planned to cut travel time to just 30 minutes, featuring stops at popular spots like Yas Island and Reem Island.
These developments promise to improve transport convenience and sustainability across the UAE and beyond, Insha'Allah. May Allah bless these efforts to serve the community and protect our environment.
