CAF fines over $1m and bans after chaotic AFCON final
CAF has fined Senegal and Morocco over $1m combined and banned several players and Senegal’s coach after the AFCON final chaos - a walk-off protest, fans trying to storm the pitch, sideline scuffles and fights among journalists. Senegal coach Pape Thiaw got a five-game African ban and $100,000 fine; Senegalese players Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr got two-game bans. Morocco faced a $315,000 total fine including $200,000 over ball boys’ interference; Achraf Hakimi and Ismael Saibari received bans and fines. CAF rejected Morocco’s appeal to overturn the result. The incident strained diplomatic ties and raised questions about Morocco’s image ahead of 2030 World Cup plans.
