A gentle reminder to check who’s shaping the social media content you see, brothers and sisters
As-salamu alaykum. Just a quick reminder to be mindful about who is moderating and running the social media spaces you follow. Many of these spaces are managed by people who aren’t Muslim, and their priorities or beliefs can shape what gets shown or hidden. There is a real information battle out there, and a lot of effort and money goes into promoting ideas that pull people away from Islamic values - often targeting women because they can be more vulnerable to certain emotional appeals. Keep in mind that moderators may remove posts that don’t fit their viewpoint and boost material that aligns with their agenda. These platforms are especially influential among young people, so they’re prime places for subtle persuasion. I’ve noticed some posts that describe mistreatment of women by Muslim men - sometimes those accounts are genuine, but other times they’re crafted to provoke strong emotions and push women toward secular ideas like career-first lifestyles or liberal feminist ideals that conflict with our teachings. There are organized groups who deliberately create or amplify such stories to steer people away from faith. So please, fellow Muslims: verify what you read, consider the source, and discuss concerns with trusted family or community members before accepting a narrative. We should support victims and seek justice when wrongs occur, but also be careful not to let manufactured stories dictate our beliefs or lead us away from the deen. May Allah guide us and protect our communities.
