‘Wael’s last wish’: Father denied release to say goodbye
Maher Tarabishi, who cared for his son Wael for 30 years as he battled Pompe disease, was detained by ICE last year and repeatedly denied temporary release. Wael died while Maher was in custody and Maher was not allowed to attend the funeral in person-only a virtual visit was offered. Family and lawyers say ICE ignored pleas and that Maher had no criminal history; they’re now asking to reopen his immigration case. The family blames the separation for Wael’s decline and are calling for compassion and justice.
