Assalamu alaykum. Gaza’s health ministry says it has received the remains of 15 Palestinians that were handed over by Israel through the ICRC as part of the ceasefire. Many families and officials say the bodies showed signs of mistreatment - reports mention beatings, tied hands, blindfolds, and damaged faces, and the remains were returned without identification. The ministry adds this latest transfer brings the total number of Palestinian bodies returned since the ceasefire on October 10 to around 300. Forensic teams have identified 89 of those so far and are continuing examinations following medical procedures before releasing remains to families. Relatives are trying to recognize their loved ones by unique marks or clothing, but forensic capacity in Gaza is still severely limited after years of blockade and the destruction of labs. Before the ceasefire, Palestinian groups said Israel was holding hundreds of Palestinian bodies in so-called “cemeteries of numbers,” and other reports indicate many more remain in Israeli custody.
