Assalamu alaikum - UAE to Boost Aid to Gaza via Cyprus Sea Route
Assalamu alaikum. The United Arab Emirates is getting ready to increase deliveries of aid to Gaza, and an envoy said on Friday that a sea corridor from Cyprus will be important alongside land and air access. Minister of State Lana Nusseibeh described a maritime route carrying pre-screened assistance from the East Mediterranean island as a crucial lifeline for the people of Gaza.
The UAE has been working with Cyprus to send large amounts of aid to the Palestinian territory, which has been devastated by the two-year conflict. “Keeping several entry points into Gaza open is extremely important,” Nusseibeh said after inspecting aid stockpiled at the port of Limassol in Cyprus. “As this plan moves forward, access to Gaza by land, air and sea will continue to be essential,” she told reporters.
Earlier agreements helped pause heavy fighting and secure the release of hostages and prisoners, but humanitarian groups warn that not nearly enough aid is still reaching Gaza. Around 22,000 tonnes of pre-screened aid have been sent from Cyprus under the Amalthea Initiative launched last year. Some shipments reached Gaza directly through a temporary pier set up by the US, while others were routed to the Israeli port of Ashdod before onward delivery.
May Allah make these efforts successful and ease the suffering of the people of Gaza.
