Why do English translations sound so harsh?

Assalamu alaikum, everyone. I'm a revert, and what drew me to Islam was a book linking it with science. So many things just made sense, alhamdulillah, and the people I've met have been wonderful. I said my shahada and recently started reading more of the Quran, but I've been struggling because the English translations I've found sound so angry. It's making it hard for me to stay focused. Does anyone have recommendations for a translation that feels less harsh? I'm just beginning to learn Arabic, so for now, reading in English is easier. JazakAllah khair.
