Gerindra Faction Defends Gibran Over Paid Protest Allegations by BEM FH UBK
The Gerindra faction believes Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka had no involvement in the demonstration by the Student Executive Body (BEM) of the Faculty of Law, Bung Karno University (FH UBK), who claimed they were paid tens of millions. Secretary of the Gerindra Faction in the Indonesian House of Representatives, Bambang Haryadi, stated that the admission by BEM FH UBK Chairman Muhammad Abdimaludin was still one-sided and needs to be proven. "I'm sure there's no connection to Mas Gibran. There might be other parties involved," he said at the Parliament Complex on Wednesday (6/24).
Bambang emphasized that the Gerindra Faction fully supports the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran as a single entity. He cautioned that this issue should not be exploited to divide what he sees as a very good relationship between the two.
Previously, Gibran met with 15 student representatives on June 15, 2026, after the demonstration. The protest coordinator, Abdi Maludin, initially claimed their movement was genuine, but a week later admitted to receiving 20 percent of a promised Rp300 million after the meeting. The claim went viral on social media.
