Warm Welcome for Morocco’s Under-20 Champions in Rabat - Alhamdulillah
Assalamu alaikum - Thousands turned out in Rabat on Wednesday to celebrate our young Moroccan team after their historic Under-20 World Cup win last week, Alhamdulillah. Morocco became the first Arab nation to lift the trophy with a 2-0 victory over strong Argentina in the final in Santiago, Chile. Before the street procession, Crown Prince Moulay Hassan attended a ceremony at the royal palace honoring the squad. The players then rode through Rabat in an open-top bus, greeted by cheering supporters, waving flags and the festive noise of vuvuzelas. “It’s a great achievement, they filled us with joy and waved our country’s flag high,” said Youssef, a 34-year-old salesman. Yassir Zabiri, who plays in Portugal for Famalicao, scored both goals in the final and finished as joint top-scorer with five goals. “The future of our football is in good hands. Well done guys, U20 world champions,” wrote Achraf Hakimi, who has been a key part of Morocco’s senior side, offering praise for the youngsters. Morocco will also host the Africa Cup of Nations later this year and is set to co-host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal - may Allah grant continued success to our teams.
