Understanding Qada and Qadar: Meaning, Types, and Their Wisdom
In life, people often question various events, like why there are heavy trials or differences in fate. All of that is connected to the qada and qadar decreed by Allah SWT. Understanding this concept is important so that Muslims can accept His decrees calmly, without losing the spirit to strive and pray.
Terminologically, qada is Allah's decree that has existed since the beginning of time and is written in the Preserved Tablet, and is general in nature. For example, failure often results from laziness, while success comes from diligence. Meanwhile, qadar is the tangible manifestation of that decree (qada), occurring in a specific measure and form when its conditions are met. Both are an inseparable unity: qada as Allah's 'plan,' and qadar as the 'realization' of that plan.
Qadar is divided into two types: takdir mubram (an absolute decree that cannot be changed, such as death) and takdir muallaq (a decree that can still be altered through prayer and effort, for instance, someone from a disadvantaged family who succeeds due to perseverance). Believing in qada and qadar brings wisdom, such as strengthening faith, fostering gratitude, keeping one from arrogance, preventing despair, and nurturing optimism.
