Umrah Travel Agency Owner Detained After Suspected of Cheating Dozens of Pilgrims in Semarang
Dozens of pilgrims who failed to depart for Umrah detained the owner of the Al Amanah umrah travel agency at a shopping center in Semarang City on Sunday night, April 26, 2026. They reported losses amounting to hundreds of millions of rupiah due to unfulfilled departure promises. Officers from the South Semarang Police Precinct intervened to secure the situation and brought the suspect to the Semarang Metropolitan Police Headquarters.
One of the victims, Reza (43), stated that he had deposited 50 million rupiah for two people with a scheduled departure in December 2025, which kept being postponed. He had received a refund of 30 million rupiah before reporting this case to the Central Java Regional Police. Another victim, Endang (54), registered since January 2025 with total payments of 46 million rupiah for herself and her sister, but the schedule was repeatedly delayed from December 5, 2025, to January 2026, with only a 25 million rupiah refund.
Based on data from the location, there were 12 recorded victims with losses varying between 25 million to 50 million rupiah per person, and some even reached 275 million rupiah. This case is now being handled by the local police for further legal proceedings.
