The Process of Replacing the Holy Kaaba's Kiswah Has Begun
The General Authority for the Care of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque has started preparing to replace the Kaaba's Kiswah. This annual process includes removing the gold ornaments, decorative elements, lamps, and the Kaaba door curtain. The new cloth is transported from the King Abdulaziz Complex to the Grand Mosque under strict supervision by a special Saudi team.
The new Kiswah is made from premium materials: 825 kg of natural silk, 47 rolls of black silk, 400 kg of cotton, 60 kg of pure silver, and 120 kg of gold-plated silver for embroidering Quranic verses. All materials are tested in the complex's laboratories to ensure quality and durability against climatic conditions.
The production process involves printing Quranic verses and Islamic motifs, then embroidering them with gold and silver threads by skilled artisans. Hand-weaving techniques are maintained for special sections. After assembly, the Kiswah is ready to be installed on the Holy Kaaba in seven stages: dyeing, machine weaving, lab testing, printing, embroidery, hand weaving, and assembly.
Saudi Arabia continues to blend national expertise and modern technology to preserve this Islamic heritage. The century-old tradition of the annual Kiswah replacement is a symbol of the Kingdom's commitment to serving the Two Holy Mosques.
