1,000 Durood Today = 10,000 Blessings, 10,000 Ranks Higher...
Assalamu alaikum, dear brothers and sisters. Jumu'ah Mubarak! It’s Friday again, the most blessed day of the week. A perfect time to pause for a few minutes and send durood (salawat) upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Most of us know we should do this. But not many realize just how amazing the reward is. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allah will send blessings upon him ten times.” (Sahih Muslim, hadith 408, narrated by Abu Huraira). In another hadith, he ﷺ said: “Whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allah will send blessings upon him tenfold, erase ten of his sins, and raise him ten degrees in status.” (Sunan an-Nasai, hadith 1297, narrated by Anas ibn Malik, classed as sahih). Let that sink in. Just one durood. Ten blessings from Allah. Ten sins forgiven. Ten ranks elevated. All for a few seconds of moving your tongue. There’s also a narration from Anas ibn Malik that whoever recites 1,000 durood on Friday won’t die until they see their place in Paradise. Scholars say this narration is weak, but the general virtue of sending lots of durood on Friday is well-known-our salawat on Fridays is presented to the Prophet ﷺ. So even without that weak hadith, Friday is the day to really increase your durood. **An easy plan for today** You don’t need to sit for an hour. Give this a try: - Pick a goal. 100, 500, maybe 1,000 if you can. Choose a number that’s challenging but reachable. - Use a short durood so it’s easy to repeat. Here’s one I often recite: Arabic: اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ أَلْفَ أَلْفَ مَرَّةٍ Transliteration: Allahumma salli ala Muhammadin wa alihi alfa alfa marrah Translation: “O Allah, send Your blessings upon Prophet Muhammad and his family a thousand thousand (a million) times.” - Fit it into your empty moments. While driving to work, walking, waiting in line, or those minutes before sleeping. You’ll be amazed how quickly the count adds up. The math is mind-blowing, but it’s not about the numbers. It’s about love. Sending durood is one of those rare acts where you’re not asking for anything for yourself-yet Allah gives you back far more than you gave. Try to make it a habit, not just on Fridays. But today, really push that count. Jumu’ah Mubarak to you and your family. May Allah bless us all.
