Tahfidz House in Banyuwangi Offers Free Quran Learning for Children to Seniors
Assayyidah Al-Ghozali Tahfidz House in Krajan I Hamlet, Tegalsari Village, Tegalsari District, Banyuwangi, provides free Quran learning for kids and elderly women. Right now, the tahfidz house is guiding 250 students, made up of 154 children and 96 seniors.
Lukman Hakim, the head of Assayyidah Al-Ghozali Foundation, said the institution was set up in 2022 to meet the need for a place where women over 50 could learn to recite the Quran. The Quran recitation for seniors initially only had five participants and now has grown to 96 students aged 50 to over 70.
All activities are free of charge because operational needs, including teacher salaries and student meals, are covered by the extended family of the late Sayyidah. The tahfidz house manager, Nuryatul Mardliyah, mentioned that elderly students who originally were learning to read the Quran are now starting to memorize several juz, while one child student has memorized 25 juz.
Assayyidah Al-Ghozali Tahfidz House was inaugurated by the Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of East Java Province, Akhmad Sruji Bahtiar, on Thursday (30/7). He emphasized that learning the Quran knows no age limit and urged people not to be embarrassed to learn at any age.
