Soaring Plastic Prices Drive Traditional Packaging Innovation for SMEs
BANDA ACEH - A 30–80% surge in plastic prices in the second quarter of 2026 is burdening home industries and SMEs. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that this increase falls outside the authority of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, emphasizing the need for innovation to reduce dependency on plastic.
Pramono suggested using traditional packaging as a more affordable and eco-friendly solution. He urged businesses to consider alternatives like banana leaves to lower production costs.
This statement was delivered at a press conference in Jakarta on Sunday, April 12, 2026. The initiative is expected to help SMEs adapt to the continuously rising plastic price conditions.
