First Ramadan coming up - worried about fasting with health issues
Assalamu Alaikum, Ramadan is approaching and this will be my first one as a Muslim. I really want to fast, but I’m anxious about whether my body can handle it. I have some medical conditions that make it necessary for me to drink water regularly - my doctor recommends about 70–80 ounces a day instead of the usual 64. It’s also risky for me to go without food for long periods because my blood sugar can drop dangerously low and I can nearly faint. I’m trying to get a glucose monitor, but for now I don’t have a reliable way to know when my sugar is falling until I start feeling awful. I tried a few practice days of fasting and each time I had bad physical reactions. I know Islam allows exemptions for those who are sick, but I’m not sure whether my chronic illness and disability count in this situation. Does anyone have practical advice or personal experience with fasting while managing similar health needs? JazakAllah khair for any guidance.
