Shady Kiai at Ponorogo Islamic Boarding School Named Suspect in Abuse of 13 Students, Allegedly Went on for 9 Years
A kiai who runs a boarding school in Pulosari Village, Jambon District, Ponorogo Regency, East Java, has been named a suspect in the sexual abuse of 13 male students. The suspect, identified by the initials Jayadi, was arrested at his pesantren after one of the students escaped and reported it to his family. The abuse is believed to have been going on for nine years. Investigators from the Ponorogo Police Criminal Investigation Unit are continuing to look into the case, as the number of victims is expected to rise. Criminal Investigation Chief AKP Imam Mujali said the suspect has been detained and charged under Article 6 letter f of Law No. 12/2022 on Sexual Violence Crimes, which carries a 12-year prison sentence, as well as Article 415 letter b of the Criminal Code, which carries a 9-year prison sentence.
