Exploring the Quran: My Thoughts on Mercy and Punishment
Assalamu alaikum! I’m learning about Islam and reading the Quran with an open heart. I’m halfway through, but some parts about Hell and Allah’s mercy are confusing me. I’d love your kind insights. Some verses paint Hell as so severe-people pleading for another chance but being refused, skin being burned, never-ending torment. It’s really unsettling. Yet Allah is called Ar-Rahman and Ar-Rahim, the Most Merciful, the Most Forgiving. I can’t quite see how endless punishment fits, especially for someone who truly wishes they could repent after tasting the consequences. From what I knew before, mercy is always there for those who sincerely turn back. Some verses make Allah seem harsher and less forgiving than I expected, and I’m trying to understand. Am I missing something? Is there a wiser way to read these passages? JazakAllahu khairan for any gentle explanation you can share.
