Saudi Arabia Increases Haramain High-Speed Rail Capacity for Hajj 1447 AH
Saudi Arabia is boosting the capacity of the Haramain High-Speed Rail for the Hajj season of 1447 AH. According to the Saudi Arabia Railways Company (SAR), the total seats provided will exceed 2.21 million, an increase of 210,000 seats from the previous season. SAR also plans to operate 5,308 trips, up by about 11 percent. Service from King Abdulaziz International Airport Station to Mecca Station is scheduled to begin on Tuesday (5/5), marking the start of the Hajj season operations.
The Haramain High-Speed Rail operates 35 trainsets at speeds of up to 300 kilometers per hour on a 453-kilometer line. The travel time between Mecca and Medina is around two hours, with five main stations connecting the two cities and Jeddah. This aims to ease pilgrims' mobility during the Hajj pilgrimage.
This capacity increase is part of the support for the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030, focusing on enhancing service quality and providing a more comfortable Hajj experience for pilgrims.
