Riau Governor's Aide Questioned by KPK as Extortion Suspect
Marjani, an aide to Riau Governor Abdul Wahid, was questioned by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as a suspect in an alleged extortion case within the Riau Provincial Government environment. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the questioning was conducted at the KPK Merah Putih Building on Monday, April 13, 2026, and Marjani would be immediately detained. He is charged under Article 12 letter e of the Anti-Corruption Law in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.
This case is suspected to involve extortion practices related to the budget for a project at the Riau Provincial Public Works and Public Housing Office, with the modus operandi being a demand for a fee for a budget increase for a 2025 project from IDR 71.6 billion to IDR 177.4 billion. The initial fee demand was 2.5 percent, then increased to 5 percent or approximately IDR 7 billion through an intermediary acting in the name of the Riau Governor, with threats of dismissal or transfer for those who did not comply.
The total funds that had been deposited from June to November 2025 reached IDR 4.05 billion out of an initial agreement of IDR 7 billion, with IDR 2.25 billion allegedly received by Abdul Wahid. The KPK continues to develop the case, including the possible involvement of other parties in the alleged extortion.
