Raid on Online Gambling in Hayam Wuruk Called Just the Tip of the Iceberg, Foreign Syndicates and Children's Exposure in the Spotlight
A joint operation by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Indonesian National Police and the Jakarta Metro Police in the Hayam Wuruk area, West Jakarta, on May 7, 2026, uncovered a large-scale online gambling network operating in an office building. A total of 321 people were detained, 320 of whom are foreign nationals from Vietnam, China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, and Cambodia. The activity had been going on for nearly two months undetected.
From the initial investigation, around 75 online gambling domains and sites were found, managed systematically with a structure resembling modern companies, including telemarketing, customer service, administration, and debt collection divisions. This shows that online gambling has evolved into an organized industry with complex operational systems.
The presence of hundreds of foreign nationals raises suspicions of a transnational syndicate linked to operational hubs in Southeast Asia. Cambodia is under the spotlight because the only Indonesian detained had a history of working in Cambodia, strengthening the alleged structured recruitment pathway within the regional online gambling network.
