Police Detain MC and Woman Over Quran Memorization Challenge with Alcohol Prize at The Sounds Project

BANDA ACEH – Police have detained two individuals with the initials E and R in connection with a Quran verse memorization challenge offering alcohol as a prize at a booth during The Sounds Project music festival in Ancol, North Jakarta, on Sunday (9/8/2026). The MC, named Revnaldo Ega Siahaan, admitted he was negligent and not the one who issued the challenge; instead, a woman in a white shirt with the initials R grabbed the mic and made the offer. Ega said he was only working as the MC and should have prevented the incident. The woman in the white shirt, whose viral video sparked public outrage for being seen as insulting religion, was arrested along with the other suspect after police responded to public pressure.
