Pesantren Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas Gears Up for 2026 NU Congress
Pondok Pesantren Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas in Jombang is moving fast to get ready for the 35th Congress of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) happening on August 27–31, 2026. The foundation’s chairman, KH Abdurrozaq Sholeh (Gus Rozaq), said they’ve set up a special team to make sure facilities and services are top-notch for thousands of participants from all over Indonesia. The pesantren’s infrastructure is considered up to the task, including the KH Hasbullah Said Multipurpose Building as the main meeting venue and parking areas in East Tambakberas.
Everyone at the pesantren is pitching in to be a good host, focusing on the comfort of the congress attendees. Accommodation is being set up in the madrasah buildings, which have already been checked to make sure they’re suitable. The decision to pick Tambakberas as the host was made by PBNU on July 7, 2026, marking a return to NU’s historical roots, considering this pesantren, founded around 1838, is where the idea of establishing the organization was hashed out by KH Abdul Wahab Chasbullah. The pesantren, which now has over 15,000 students, is also a symbol of strengthening the role of pesantren in the Islamic civilization of the archipelago.
