KPK Reveals Silmy Karim Received Bribes for Foreigners' Stay Permit Processing Worth Hundreds of Billions
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) disclosed that the alleged extortion in the foreign nationals' stay permit processing case involving Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections Silmy Karim could reach hundreds of billions of rupiah. This came to light after a sting operation and the naming of eight suspects.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that besides cash in foreign currencies, investigators seized hundreds of grams of precious metals, seven cars, 15 motorcycles, and 11 bicycles. These pieces of evidence were secured from accounts and physical forms.
The eight suspects include Silmy Karim, Acting Director General of Immigration Saffar Muhammad Godam, Head of West Java Immigration Office Jaya Saputra, Head of West Jakarta Special Class I Non-TPI Immigration Office Ronald Arman Abdullah, and four other officials from the Stay Permit Directorate.
After being named suspects, all of them are detained for the first 20 days at the KPK's Red and White Building Detention Center for further investigation into the alleged extortion and gratuities in immigration document processing for foreign nationals.
