Had to scold some kids for mischief

Assalamu alaikum, everyone. So, there's this group of around 4 to 6 kids who show up at our doorstep daily between Dhuhr and Asr, asking for something to eat. We always try to give them whatever's available. For the past couple of weeks, they've been ringing the bell a lot, and honestly, I didn't mind it much. But today was different. They kept pressing the bell and then bolting away. After this happened multiple times, I got really annoyed and ended up scolding them. Honestly, I think my patience just ran out today. But I also feel a bit bad, like maybe I was too harsh. A similar thing happened back during Ramadan a few months ago. Three kids pulled down a circuit breaker at a traffic light near a busy university intersection, causing total chaos. I caught them and raised my voice, telling them to put it back up. I'm wondering, was my reaction too much in both cases, or was it fair given the situation?
