Islamophobia in the UK: Protection from Hate or a New Limit on Free Speech?
Assalamu'alaikum, Salam.life family. In recent days, one topic has been constantly appearing in various media: the debate in the UK about the 'working definition' of Islamophobia - whether this definition is needed to protect Muslims from hatred, or rather risks suppressing freedom of speech and public discussion. We raise this topic because definitions are not just a matter of words. The way a country names something often determines how it responds to it. When a definition is used by an institution, it can influence staff training, communication guidelines, how reports are handled, to how schools, universities, and public services assess a case: 'Is this legitimate criticism, or is this hate?'
