Indonesian Citizens on Gaza Humanitarian Mission Claim Torture by Israeli Soldiers
Nine Indonesian citizens taking part in the Global Sumud Flotilla humanitarian mission to Gaza say they were tortured while detained by Israeli soldiers. One victim, Rahendro Herubowo, recounted that his ribs were kicked and he was tasered. "I experienced several acts of violence, kicked three or four times, and finally tasered," he said.
Another Indonesian, Andre Prasetyo Nugroho, was also tasered on the thigh and forced to prostrate with his hands tied. They have now arrived in Istanbul, Turkey, and are undergoing medical check-ups. Foreign Minister Sugiono strongly condemned the actions as inhumane and a violation of international law.
The Indonesian government is continuing to coordinate to bring the citizens home safely and as quickly as possible.
