Hajj 2026 Wraps Up, Hajj Minister Boosts Service Transformation Going Forward
The operations for the 1447 H/2026 M Hajj pilgrimage have officially ended after the last group UPG-43 touched down at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport Makassar on Wednesday (7/1/2026). A total of 202,636 regular Hajj pilgrims from 527 flight groups, 16,585 special Hajj pilgrims, and 1,016 staff have been sent home. Minister of Hajj and Umrah Moch. Irfan Yusuf stated that all pilgrims have returned safely.
This year, the government faced big challenges with 44,247 elderly pilgrims and 170,700 high-risk ones. Various services were provided, including 24.18 million meal boxes, 15,212 buses, and tiered health services. Governance innovations included a fairer quota allocation, reduced Hajj costs, fast-track embarkation, and service digitalization.
Though operations are closed, 60 pilgrims are still hospitalized in Saudi Arabia and the insurance claim process is ongoing. The Minister emphasized that evaluation will focus on services at Mina and strengthening health readiness (istithaah) for the 1448 H/2027 M Hajj. The government aims for a more professional, safe system that's oriented toward pilgrims' needs.
The Minister expressed appreciation to everyone involved and prayed for pilgrims to have their Hajj accepted. A thorough evaluation will be the foundation for a better Hajj implementation in the future.
