Gusdurian Peduli Provides Medical Support for Monks' Thudong Journey from Bali to Jogja
Gusdurian Peduli volunteers are escorting the monks' Thudong ritual journey on foot from Bali to Borobudur. Their main mission is to make sure the monks stay in good medical condition, providing ambulances and emergency care at every rest stop.
Christianto Wibowo, a volunteer from Gusdurian Peduli Lereng Kelud, explained that the medical team works together with local Gusdurian communities along the route, from Banyuwangi to Yogyakarta, to keep the relay of care going.
This action is grounded in the values of tolerance and pluralism inherited from KH. Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur), who taught mutual respect regardless of background. Christianto expressed how touched he was seeing the warm welcome from the wider community towards the monks during the journey.
A few incidents of fatigue and shortness of breath due to the weather were handled quickly thanks to the medical unit's readiness. Gusdurian is committed to continuing to support the Thudong ritual as a real way of nurturing the nation's diversity.
