Dito Ariotedjo Questioned by KPK Over 2023-2024 Hajj Quota Corruption Case
Former Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo was questioned again as a witness in the alleged corruption case involving the 2023-2024 hajj quota. The questioning by KPK investigators took place at the Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on Tuesday (6/30/2026). Dito was asked for additional information regarding two new suspects from the private sector, namely Ismail Adham (Operational Director of PT Makassar Toraja/Maktour Travel) and Asrul Azis Taba (Commissioner of PT Raudah Eksati Utama and Chairman of Kesthuri).
Dito explained that the questioning covered his visit to Saudi Arabia in October 2023 when he accompanied President Joko Widodo at a bilateral meeting with Saudi Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman. That visit resulted in an additional hajj quota for Indonesia.
Dito stressed that investigators didn't ask anything about the alleged destruction of evidence by Maktour Travel, which at that time was owned by Fuad Hasan Masyhur, his father-in-law. Previously, the KPK had named former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas and his former special staff Ishfah Abidal Aziz as suspects.
The KPK suspects that Ismail and Asrul, along with Fuad Hasan Masyhur and others, held meetings with the suspects from the Religious Affairs Ministry to request additional special hajj quotas exceeding the 8 percent limit. In the process, there was allegedly a quota split under a 50:50 scheme, as well as arrangements for extra quotas for companies affiliated with Maktour Travel and the Kesthuri Association. Ismail allegedly gave some money to related parties, with Maktour's illegal profits reaching around Rp27.8 billion in 2024. Meanwhile, Asrul allegedly gave 406 thousand US dollars to Gus Alex, and eight affiliated PIHK obtained total illegal profits of Rp40.8 billion.
