BRIN and DKP Aceh Besar Review Research for Developing Traditional Salt Ponds
A team from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) conducted a working visit to the Marine and Fisheries Office (DKP) of Aceh Besar on Friday, April 10, 2026. The meeting, led by Dini Purbani from BRIN and the Acting Head of DKP Aceh Besar, Makmon, aimed to strengthen research collaboration in the marine and fisheries sector, specifically exploring local knowledge in managing traditional salt ponds.
Makmon revealed several challenges faced, including a lack of ongoing mentoring so that the knowledge provided isn't applied consistently. Furthermore, joint business groups are still struggling to access capital due to weak administrative governance, which hinders the adoption of modern equipment.
"Our hope is for applicable innovations that can improve the welfare of coastal communities," said Makmon. He emphasized the need for immediate follow-up with a pilot project whose impact can be directly felt by the community. After the meeting, the team conducted a field visit to several salt pond locations to directly observe the conditions and management practices.
