BNPB: 47 Dead from M7.7 Earthquake in NTT, Hundreds of Homes Damaged
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported 47 deaths from the magnitude 7.7 earthquake centered in Nagakeo Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Saturday (15/8) early morning WIB. Victims are spread across Manggarai (24), East Manggarai (17), Sikka (3), Ngada (1), and Ende (1).
Damage includes 157 heavily damaged houses, 41 moderately damaged, and 148 lightly damaged. Damaged public facilities include 87 educational facilities, 18 health facilities, 5 places of worship, and 6 offices.
BNPB has distributed food and non-food aid through logistics warehouses in East Flores and from Jakarta via Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Baseops. Total aid prepared is 50 thousand packages weighing 275 tons, with 10,500 packages already arrived from the Cabinet Secretariat.
The shaking was also felt in Bima, West Nusa Tenggara, and Selayar Islands, South Sulawesi. In Selayar, BPBD set up evacuation posts in three sub-districts: Pasimarannu, Pasilambena, and Takabonerate.
