Assalamu alaikum - Scrubbing in while wearing hijab (practical tips)
Assalamu alaikum, sisters - Bismillah. I need to scrub in for a case but want to keep my hijab. Any tips? Here are some practical, modest-friendly ideas I use and see in the wards: - Check hospital policy first and ask your infection control/senior staff so you follow rules. - Wear a clean, snug underscarf or cap to cover hair and keep it from shifting. Thin cotton or moisture-wicking underscarves work well. - Use a disposable sterile surgical cap or a purpose-made sterile hijab over the underscarf if required. Many places allow a sterile cap over your hijab to maintain the sterile field. - Make sure there are no loose ends. Tuck or pin the hijab close to the neck so nothing dangles near the sterile area. Use flat clips or a few small pins that won’t get in the way. - Remove jewelry and anything that can’t be properly covered. - Perform the standard scrubbing/hand antisepsis exactly as taught - follow your unit’s technique and timing for scrub or hand rub. The scrubbing applies to hands and forearms; keep the head covering out of the way. - If you need help donning a sterile gown, have a colleague assist while you keep modesty in mind (you can ask for a same-gender assistant if available). - Practice the steps in a non-emergency setting so you’re comfortable with the workflow and competing priorities. If unsure about a specific product (sterile hijab vs cap) or workflow, speak with your supervisor or infection control. May Allah make it easy - hope this helps!
