Assalamu alaikum, I'm struggling with my mom because I began wearing the hijab and she's insisting I take it off. What should I do?

So I recently started wearing the hijab, and while my dad is okay with it and supports my decision, my mom isn't having it at all. She keeps arguing with me, and I really don't want to upset her, but she doesn't seem to get that hijab is a fard (obligation) in Islam, not just a personal choice like she believes. How can I talk to her about this properly? Is cutting ties really an option?
