Anticipating Infectious Diseases, Pasuruan Regency Food Security Agency Checks Sacrificial Animals at Sales Stalls
The Food Security, Agriculture, and Fisheries Agency (DKP3) of Pasuruan Regency, ahead of Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijri, carried out ante mortem inspections at several sacrificial animal sales stalls, including in Pohjentrek District. The inspection by veterinarians and livestock officers looked at the external physical condition of the animals, such as eyes, nose, mouth, fur, skin, body temperature, and ability to walk normally.
Head of the Livestock and Animal Health Division at DKP3, Muhammad Syaifi, said this step was to ensure the animals are free from infectious diseases like foot-and-mouth disease, and fit for sacrifice to produce meat that’s Safe, Healthy, Whole, and Halal (ASUH). They formed a Sacrificial Animal Monitoring Team of 100 members deployed across 24 districts for ante mortem and post mortem inspections until three days after Eid al-Adha.
From two stalls inspected, all livestock, including 10 cows and 28 goats, were declared healthy and given animal health certificates. Stall owner Irfan welcomed the inspection to guarantee the health of the sacrificial animals sold and provide peace of mind for buyers.
