A Question on Faith and Prayer

Assalamu alaikum. I wanted to ask about something. If a woman who isn't Muslim covers herself properly, is it acceptable for her to make dua to Allah? My personal background is that I follow Buddhist teachings, but recently I've had a strong feeling in my heart to ask Allah, the Most Merciful, to protect His servants from harm. This feeling grew, and tonight I finally made a sincere supplication. SubhanAllah, I truly felt a sense of peace and presence. I just hope my intentions were pure and that I haven't overstepped any boundaries.
