7 Verses from the Quran on the Prohibition of Adultery and the Reasons Why
The Quran explicitly forbids the act of adultery, as emphasized in Surah Al-Isra verse 32: 'And do not approach adultery. Indeed, it is ever an abomination and an evil way.' This verse not only prohibits the act of adultery itself but also anything that leads to it. Several other verses, such as those in Surah An-Nur, explain the punishment for adulterers, the prohibition for believers from marrying adulterers, and the sanctions for those who accuse without proof. Surah An-Nur verses 30-31 also command believing men and women to lower their gaze and guard their chastity as preventive measures.
Allah SWT forbids adultery for several reasons, including corrupting lineage, leading to other evils, damaging reputations, destroying families, and spreading sexually transmitted diseases. In Surah Al-Furqan verses 68-69, it is explained that those who commit adultery will face severe punishment in the Hereafter. This prohibition aims to preserve the purity of individuals and the Muslim community.
