World-Class Islamic School Begins Construction, Muhammadiyah Ready to Nurture Global Generations
Muhammadiyah is pioneering international-level Islamic education with the establishment of Muhammadiyah Sapen Universal School (MSUS) in Bantul, Yogyakarta. The school will start accepting students in the 2026/2027 academic year, blending global standards with Islamic values, Muhammadiyah identity, nationalism, and Indonesian culture.
Muhammadiyah's central board chairman, Haedar Nashir, said MSUS is an extension of SD Muhammadiyah Sapen, known as one of the best elementary schools in Indonesia. Its construction aims to create a holistic educational ecosystem to address the quality education challenges at the ASEAN level.
MSUS principal Agung Rahmanto explained the school will integrate the National Curriculum, the Cambridge Curriculum, and the International Baccalaureate. In the initial stage, MSUS is opening grades I and III, targeting a total of 336 students. The focus is on strengthening internationally standardized language, Math, and Science, as well as developing the learner's character.
With this model, Muhammadiyah strives to prepare a generation of Muslims who are globally competitive without losing their Islamic and Indonesian identity, while making MSUS a model of excellent Islamic education at the global level.
