Why will most people end up in hell?

Salam. I’m a Muslim who grew up in Muslim and Arab lands, but now I’m living in a non-Muslim country. This got me wondering: why will most folks face punishment forever? Most Muslims are born into it. Yes, there are many converts, but almost all non-Muslims never become Muslim. So why should we humans get an eternal punishment for a short life? Look at a map-Islam is mostly in the Middle East, parts of Africa, Central Asia, and near Europe. It’s been far from places like Japan or South America historically. I think, and I’d say, I probably wouldn’t be Muslim if I wasn’t born one. Not because I don’t believe, but it’s such a huge, tough, and unusual step for someone from a non-Muslim society to change their whole life to Islam, especially when they grew up believing something else. Just asking from real curiosity.
