Video of Israeli Soldiers Mistreating Humanitarian Activists Sparks International Condemnation
A video showing Israeli soldiers tying up and humiliating activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla has gone viral on social media. The footage was uploaded by Israel’s National Security Minister, Itamar Ben Gvir, on his X account on May 20, 2026, showing dozens of activists kneeling with their hands tied on the deck of a military ship, while the Israeli national anthem plays.
This action drew criticism from several countries. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called the treatment of the activists, including Italian citizens, unacceptable and a violation of human dignity. The French government also summoned the Israeli Ambassador to demand an explanation.
Condemnation even came from within Israel. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu considered Ben Gvir’s actions not in line with Israeli values and ordered the deportation of the activists. Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stressed that the act does not represent Israel.
