A Struggling Past Relationship...

Salaam everyone. I was in a haram relationship with a guy for a year. We're both still in school, Muslim, but without financial support or a way to make it halal. Out of that year, we spent 8 months trying to end it because of the guilt and knowing it's haram. Our parents caught us a few times, but we still didn't stop talking. We kept saying "one more time" or "just one last conversation," but that loop never ended. I swear I've heard "one more time" more than anything else in this dunya. Anyway, we both were letting this haram continue, even though we knew how serious it is in front of Allah SWT. We go to the same school, so now it's super awkward since we know everything about each other. Can't make it halal and get married right now. He was such a nice guy. No female attention-like 20 followers on Insta, 10 on TikTok, keeps to himself. Never spoke to another girl before me; I was his first everything. We didn't commit major zina, but we did minor things like touching, hugging, kissing on the face (not lips). He's a good young Muslim man who takes care of himself, but he had a tough childhood and things are hard now-he lost his mom a few months ago, may Allah have mercy on her. But since we broke up, his grades have fallen off a cliff. Before me, during the relationship, even after his mom passed, he was doing okay in school. Now he skips class, failing everything, not studying at all. I'm scared Allah SWT is letting him hit rock bottom and he won't recover in time for marriage, and his grades will block us from getting married. (When we were together, I'd always push him to do his work; he'd only do it because I said so, not for himself.) Please, I need advice.
