The Meaning of La Yukallifullahu Nafsan Illa Wus'aha in QS Al-Baqarah 286
The phrase 'La yukallifullahu nafsan illa wus'aha' means Allah doesn't burden any soul beyond what it can bear. This verse is part of Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 286, and it's often a reminder for Muslims to stay patient and not give up when facing life's trials.
According to Tafsir Ibn Kathir, this verse shows Allah's mercy in not burdening His servants beyond their capacity. It was also revealed to calm the Prophet's companions who were worried after verse 284 came down about Allah knowing what's inside people's hearts.
The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs' tafsir explains that this verse proves Islam is an easy religion that doesn't weigh people down. Allah's justice is seen in rewarding good deeds you do, while punishment is only for bad deeds actually carried out. This lines up with QS An-Nisa verse 28, which mentions that Allah wants to lighten things for you because humans were created weak.
This verse also teaches you to think well of Allah when facing trials. Every hardship definitely comes with a way out and help. There's a hadith qudsi that says, 'I am as My servant thinks of Me. If he thinks well of Me, then good will come to him.'
