Some hadiths about crying and tears
Assalamu alaikum everyone. Came across these beautiful hadiths and thought I’d share. They really hit me hard. Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: “A person who cries out of fear of Allah won’t enter the Fire-just like milk can’t go back into the udder.” Basically, it’s impossible. Ibn ‘Abbas reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: “Two eyes won’t be touched by the Hellfire: one that weeps from fear of Allah, and one that stays awake guarding for His sake.” Abu Hurayrah also said the Prophet ﷺ mentioned seven types of people who’ll be shaded by Allah on the Day when there’s no shade but His. Among them: a just leader; a young person who grows up worshipping Allah; someone whose heart is tied to the masjid; two who love each other for Allah’s sake, meeting and parting on that; a man called by a beautiful, high-status woman and he says ‘I fear Allah’; someone who gives charity so secretly that his left hand doesn’t know what his right gives; and a person who remembers Allah alone and their eyes fill up. And there’s that story with Ibn Mas‘ud. The Prophet ﷺ asked him to recite Quran, and he was like, “Should I recite it to you when it came down to you?” But the Prophet ﷺ said he liked hearing it from someone else. So Ibn Mas‘ud recited Surat an-Nisa, and when he reached the verse (4:41), the Prophet ﷺ said, “Enough for now.” Ibn Mas‘ud looked and saw his eyes overflowing with tears. Also, ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab had two dark streaks on his face from constant weeping. May Allah soften our hearts and make us among those who cry out of His fear.
