Seasonal Flag Sellers in Nganjuk Complain About Dropping Sales Ahead of August 17
The atmosphere of Independence Day celebrations in Nganjuk this year feels different, with sluggish sales of independence attributes. Endrawan, a seasonal seller from Bandung, revealed a drop in turnover of up to 80 percent. "Now I only sell 2 to 5 pieces a day. Back then, I could sell up to 20 a day," he said at his stall, Saturday (8/8).
The sluggish economy and the rise of online trading are cited as the main causes. From his group, there are 10 Bandung sellers spread across Nganjuk since July 20. Endrawan sells flags starting at Rp20 thousand, pennants at Rp35 thousand, and background cloths at Rp180 thousand, with flags sized 120x80 cm being the most sought after.
The sellers hope the local government will urge the public to put up flags to enliven the independence celebration. They plan to sell until August 16 before returning home.
