Why Our Circle Matters in Islam

Assalamu alaikum! I’ve been reflecting on how community is such a huge part of our deen. Yes, Islam centers on our own link with Allah-we’ll each answer for our deeds alone. But a big part of that test is *how we treat and interact with those around us*. Our social circle is part of the trial, you know? Think about it: why is a public shahada so emphasized when faith is in the heart? Because embracing Islam brings rights and duties between us and other Muslims. Same with nikah-it’s not just two people, it joins families, creates responsibilities, and involves the whole community. I’ve also seen many brothers and sisters saying, “My iman feels low,” and often the root is their companionship. We’re social beings, and being around those with good character, proper adab, and sincere iman can truly lift our hearts. Shaytan loves isolating us. So maybe we should ask: *“Who am I picking to be around?”* That choice shows our free will, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re asked about it on Yawm al-Qiyamah. Allahu a’lam. : )
